Alexander Khaindrava

Alexander Khaindrava, Principal Guest Conductor of the Klaipeda Music Theatre in Lithuania, is one ofthe most prominent Georgian conductors.

At the Klaipeda Music Theatre he, among other, conducted a newproduction of Iolanta together with Lithuanian stage director Raimondas Banionis and wasacclaimed by both critics and audience for this work.

Founder and Music Director of the Georgian State Chamber Orchestra (Tbilisi), he led this company to the international level and toured with it to Germany, Baltic Countries, Chili.

Prepared the Tbilisi Opera Orchestra for the concert with Placido Domingo and deserved a great recognition for this job.

Graduated the Estonian State Music and Theatre Academy as a
symphony and opera conductor (professor Arvo Volmer) and since that time frequently conducts symphony and chamber orchestras in hishomeland Georgia and also in Armenia, Estonia, Lithuania and Germany.

Started his musical education as a contrabassist in Tbilisi, Georgia, later continued and graduated the St. Petersburg Conservatory. Was the only one, who was chosen to play with Claudio Abbado at the Mahler Youth Orchestra as solo contrabass player. Worked at the Mariinsky Theatre, Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, Kanazava Chamber Orchestra (Japan).

Alexander Khaindrava was born in Tbilisi (Georgia) in 1969. He finished music college as a double-bass player. In 1984 and 1988 he became the prize winner of the Republican Music Competition of Georgia. In 1990 he became a student of the Saint Petersburg Conservatory. From 1991 to 1992 he played at the Mahler-Jugend Orchestra under the conductor Claudio Abbado.

In 1993 he participated at the International Festival for solo and jazz double-bass players where he was invited by the famous American soloist Gary Karr. He went up to the finals and played in the final concert of the festival. In addition he took several master-classes by Gary Karr.

From 1994 to 1997 he was member of the Mariinsky Theater Orchestra under Valery Gergiev. He gave solo-concerts at the Saint Petersburg Philharmonics and at the Lincoln Center in New York. He worked also as principal double-bass at the Chamber Orchestra of Kanazava, (Japan), and worked also as principal double-bass, at the Radio Symphony Orchestra in the Netherlands.

In 1997 he was invited to New York, Lincoln center, and took part in the concert with participation of Gary Karr.
In 2006 he was invited to the Opera Theater Orchestra in Tbilisi as the principal double-bass player. He was also offered a post as a professor for teaching double-bass at the state conservatory.

Since 2006 he also performs as conductor and takes advanced training courses from the principal conductor of the Tallinn national Opera (Rep. of Estonia), Arvo Volmer.

Since 2008−2011 he was performing as a chef conductor of the Tbilisi Chamber Orchestra (Rep. of Georgia). The Orchestra has performed numerous concerts in Tbilisi. In September 2009, it gave a concert in Berlin, and was also recorded on CD.

He has performed in many concerts in various palaces in Saint Petersburg. He has also performed numerous concerts in Saint Petersburg in the big Philharmonic Hall together with the or chestra for TV recordings.

He has twice won the Republican Competition in Tbilisi, (Georgia). Since 2011 Alexander Khaindrava is an artist of IMG agency.
